I received an email last week from a business customer and the first sentence was "Do I really benefit from this maintenance contract?" Right then I figured something was going on. Maybe with the economy he was feeling a pinch or whatever. So then I replied to him that yes I thought it was beneficial or I would not of offered it to his business but if he really wanted to stop it that would not be a problem. Little history on this customer is he is active duty Navy (ship commander) and also has this business spread over 3 towns. But, he likes to think of himself as a do-it-yourself type if you get what I mean. I also told him in my reply that it's just like on his ship when he tells the boatsman mate that they "really' don't have [+]

Been getting some e-mails lately asking for link exchanges not only to this site but to our business sites as well. What is wierd is most of the time when these comes they are from outside the U.S. and wanting to do impression links etc. But, lately they have been from businesses within the U.S. wanting to do an exchange. Now for the purposes of SEO I fully understand the importance of link exchanges, keywords, meta tags, etc. But, if you are in business and decide to go thru the Internet to find people to do exchanges with here are some pointers. 1. Do not send the same e-mail to every business. I'm sure that is the easy way to do it but the problem is if a person has more then one site and get's your e-mail at both sites it [+]
Read a post about this and thought it was pretty interesting. Here you have a business that maps out wi-fi spots in an area and calls it "Wi-Fi Mapper". Now the owner Tim Groninga of Cedar Valley Tech actually refers to it as "raising awareness of wireless network security and for research puposes" and then continues to say "information is processed and turned into this fun map". Now when I look at the map what I see are wireless networks that are secure and some that are not. I also see some that it's possible refer to the person's last name as their SSID on the router. On top of that I see locations on a map i.e. street where these networks are. Now I am wondering where exactly is the "fun" part of this? Is the "fun" part when a home [+]
If some of you remember from a previous post I said about how much I liked this station WJFK and the format they had with different radio host. Well low and behold that is all going to change now and they are going to become 106.7 The Fan....Nice name but don't like the concept. First and foremost Big O & Dukes are gone. Apparently Chad is staying to do a show with LaVar Arrington but Oscar is leaving. Now not being a Redskins fan or a Nat's fan I really don't see the reason to listen anymore. I can imagine during the season to hear all about Jason Campbell and the Redskins report and who really cares. Can only take so much talk about a few teams in the area. I guess if you are a Redskins, Nat's, Cap's, etc fan then this will [+]
Just installed this software from BlancheSoft called TS Man 2009. It's a Computer Service Software program for use in your computer business. Pretty nice software that is full of features to utilize. I really like the layout, easy to understand, easy to add items, easy to grasp. Too many of these programs take a degree to figure out how to use them and set them up. Download the demo and give it a try. If you decide to purchase it's reasonably prices and you get a discount if you belong to the NACRBO. [+]
Browsing the intenet and I ran across one of those new "hidden video" setups. This time they went to local computer shops with a PC that had that hard drive disconnected. Pretty amusing stuff (maybe not if it's your shop). But, as i'm reading I realize the one shop is an owner that I have actually talked to in the past and his name is Charles McLeod and is out of Portland Oregon. His business is PC Paramedix, Inc. Check out the site, and also check out the video on the main page. Super job by Charles and his staff for doing the right thing. Dan Computer Repair Business Lessons Learned [+]
I have pretty much has all the high-tech phones that have every come out. The problem with that is i've never used half of the functions that are available on any phone. Well now that I have the iPhone I decided to change that. Have a good friend who kept telling me to download podcast on my iPhone and listen while i'm driving (spend alot of time on the road). So I finally did it and went to a site called Podnutz . Now apparently the owner has been podcasting for sometime and then took a break but now he is back. It's actually pretty enjoyable driving and listening to the podast at the same time as compared to a sports station (my favorite) or someting else. And who knows maybe just maybe i'll learn something while i'm doing it. Well thks iPhone [+]
Well I waited and waited and finally got the Dell Mini. Having looked at all the different versions of Mini's out there it was not that easy of a decision. But, for the purposes I will be using it the Dell fits the bill. It has the 160 gig hd and also 1 gig of memory, with xp home pre-installed. So far only thing I have done is add a folder with some tech tools and also installed Ubuntu on it. So now it will dual-boot to either XP or Ubuntu. I really like being able to take it to a customers especially a business when I go to do maintenance as compared to the laptop I use to carry with me. This makes it so much easier. Hopefully down the road I will find more things to add to the Mini along [+]

Family: Married to my wife Becky of 3 years and we have 2 cats, Hershey and Pumpkin.
First Job: The first full time job I had was working as a morning announcer/program director at a local radio station. At the time, it was a pretty neat job, but as time wore on, it got to be a grind. It was tough pretending that I enjoyed the work, so after 17 years and 4 different radio stations, I gave it up and did something else.
Worst Job: When I was in high school I was a dishwasher at a local restaurant. I pity those people who do that work. However, after 17 years as a morning announcer, there were days I'd rather [+]
